Alan Turing's seminal and fascinating 1936 paper, which invented what we now call the 'Turing machine', set the foundations for the discipline of Computer Science. His equally famous 1950 paper proposed the 'Turing Test', which has ever since remained a major topic of discussion within AI, and has become especially pertinent with the development of Large Language Models (LLMs). This course aims to give deep understanding of these two key texts, covering both the theory that lies behind them, and some of the major issues that they have raised in Computer Science and AI.
