The course introduces a variety of local Singapore texts from a variety of genres - poetry, short stories, plays, novels, and film to you. In taking this course, you will gain a deeper understanding of major themes, cultures, identities and lifestyles represented in Singapore literature, as well as national issues and perspectives. As this is a GER-Core module, this course is pitched at an introductory level, making it suitable for students with minimal to no background in Singapore literature. This includes non-English SoH and SSS students, as well as local and international exchange students who are visiting Singapore and NTU. Students who are interested to learn about Singapore literature and culture through a literary perspective should take this course. The main value of this course is that it exposes you to Singapore literature and culture through a literary lens, which will contribute to the richness of your understanding of Singapore.
