1. Explaining the concept of Sinophone as well as examining the ideology of 'Imperialism,' 'Colonialism,' 'Nationalism,' 'Cultural China,' and 'Chinese diaspora'. 2. Looking deeply at the five dimensions of Sinophone culture - language identity, cultural identity, class identity, national identity and gender identity. 3. Bringing together local Singaporean and Malaysian Sinophone audiovisual texts, such as Chinese/dialect films, songs, and literature as well as using historical materials such as old Chinese newspapers and periodicals in Singapore and Malaya as a reference to rethink the Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese identity
