Climate change poses a clear and present threat to our way of life. A key policy response to this issue has been for Governments globally to use carbon markets and carbon pricing to ensure that businesses and society at large, appropriately price the cost of greenhouse gas emissions. As part of Singapore's Green Plan 2030, Singapore itself aims to be a leading carbon services and trading hub so as to capture new business opportunities and create new jobs in the green economy. In this context, students who understand carbon markets and carbon pricing will be better positioned to take up roles in the green economy, and to meet this need, we propose a new course 'Carbon Markets and Pricing Fundamentals.'
