This course will examine the terms, difficulties, disabilities and disorders, used in describing diverse learning and behavioral challenges. The disabilities and disorders covered in this course will be based on the 13 disability categories in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004 classification system. In this course, participants will learn the etiologies of the disabilities or disorders and their impact on the family and functioning of the individual in the various domains (e.g., language, physical, social interaction). The course will also suggest some of the necessary accommodations and the support in the classroom for the various disabilities. It will also include the services that are available in the community to support the individuals with various disabilities and disorders.
