This course is part of a three-course sequence aimed at equipping music students and student teachers with an inclusive epistemological framework to understand the wide and diverse array of musical traditions, styles and genres in today's music landscape as well as acquire some basic music composing skills. While the course content takes reference from the MOE school music syllabi, there are provisions for you to explore other musics or sonic worlds that are of interest to you. The music-theoretical foundation laid is broad and flexible enough to serve your learning across the music curriculum in your undergraduate studies at NIE and beyond. This second course, which is also offered as an NTU Broadening and Deepening Elective (BDE), will deepen your music-theoretic understanding and broaden your purview to include Indian and Indonesian traditions. Building on the first course (AAI16J), we will analyze more demanding pieces of music from repertoire. You will also be more conscious and discerning of musical styles and general features as you continue to learn through compositional exercises. This elective can be used to partially fulfil the Minor in Music 15-AU requirement.
